Staircase Contarini del Bovolo in Venice

Palace and Staircase Contarini del Bovolo in Venice.

The Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo is a great example of the Venetian gothic style, it's located in Saint Mark "sestiere", close to Campo Manin a 15 minutes nice walk from Hotel Mignon.

The palace was built between 1300 and 1400 by the Contarini "di San Paternian" aristocratic family, who at the end of the XV century decided to build a tower with a snail ("Bovolo" in Venetian language) staircase. From that moment on both the Contarini palace and family were given the nickname "del Bovolo" to underline this unusual building for Venice.

Today the palace is owned by a Charity Institution and the Scala Contarini del Bovolo has surely become one of the most famous, visited and photographed snail staircases in the world.

Hotel Mignon recommends to all dear guests a visit to the Scala Contarini del Bovolo in Venice!
